Nicole McCarthy spent her childhood traversing the state and camping on the Olympic Peninsula with her family. Getting out of the city is something she still values, particularly when she can go stargazing in the mountains. “There’s something that’s so thrilling about feeling cosmically insignificant,” she says.
“I don’t know, it gives me this insanely beautiful perspective. And I just think about being on this planet, and needing to take care of it because it’s the only one that we have.”
